Something out of nothing

Something out of nothing
As a mother of two creative kids, I always observe them meticulously and try to be part of their musical gig be it games, crafts, drawing or creating lyrics. Yesterday my elder kiddo started singing his own lyrics to which my younger one added hip hop. The meaningless words turned into a musical composition.Haha......it was impressive. The next turn was of mommy......I bit my finger and then raised my hand to recite one of my poems  "Affection"' published in 1995.....it goes like this:

Stitched in nine
a meadow burning in glory
pioneer in pine
stretching arm for a crony

one who receives must blanket
or you escape in others heart
precious to be preserved in a casket
ere on an urn in the music of art

the dispensation must be at intervals
'cause though you are vast as the sea
the precinct in the inner well
that which unlocked through an influential key

your presence burgeons life,
and you are housed in man's hive.

My two little ones gazed me with blank expressions and then looked at each other in utter disgust. Oh! I was team's out. I wrapped my soulmates into my arms and summarized the meaning of the poem which they associated with a rhyme of love. I just wanted to convey the message that what is the significance of affection in our life and how should we bind it. They decided to continue with that but with a new version......for them it was something out of nothing and for me, it was more than that.

What is the role of theatre in school education? | Theatre for children

A big bang.....what was it? sound from a theatre for children..... when I entered the auditorium, a musical performance was underway on the song of Justin Timberlake "can't stop the feeling". Another epic performance was ongoing in a hall attached to the auditorium. In the courtyard, Street theatre(nukkar Natak) was in progress on child labour which instantly made me recall the acclaimed movie "Stanley ka Dabba."Action, movement and excitement were unstoppable. Variety of costumes, masks, make up artists, sound engineers added to the liveliness of the environment. I stood in a corner recalling how during childhood even small roles in school plays and dance dramas would always keep us electrified to spare no efforts in rehearsals. The theatre is not arrested in time. Originating from Greece, it has stood the test of time and come a long way to the improvisational theatre to the novel concept of online theatre. It was on World theatre day,27 March, I ha...

Behavioural abnormality in kids

Behavioural abnormality in kids cannot be measured. In one of the colouring events, I accompanied my kids, I was mesmerised with the colourful imagination of people. One young girl was painting the complexities of the brain so minutely that my attention was completely drawn towards her painting. Suddenly something crossed my eyes. Before I could understand what interrupted my undiverted attention, one of the guardians started scolding a child while a woman was repeatedly sorry for the behaviour of her kid. Out of curiosity, I peeped into the conversation. A boy of 8 yrs threw a painting brush on a toddler which hit him on his forehead. Due to the intervention of other parents, the matter was wrapped up quickly and the event resumed its character. But the mother of the boy was so upset that she left the place with her child in haste. I was closely watching the behaviour of mother and boy. As the event progressed nobody cared about that soon forgotten incident but being a paren...

Impact of Covid-19 on learning graph of kids.!!

The impact of Covid-19 lockdown is so overwhelming that even kids fear it is incessant. Every day my daughter prays to God to finish the virus so that she can step out of confinement. The children were not meant to be part of this pandemic but now they are at greater developmental risks affecting both physical and mental growth. Their learning graph is slow-moving in an unconducive environment.UN policy published recently corroborates this fact. According to UN 188 countries have imposed countrywide school closures, affecting more than 1.5 billion children and youth. Parents, schools, policymakers- all are stumped because of the inconceivable situation for which they never rehearsed. The immense challenges hardly provide a quick fix in the contemporary scenario but will put up us in state of readiness for the future. Let us discuss these challenges: Impact of Covid-19 on learning What are the challenges for parents? The routine of kids has gone berserk. There is no des...
